From republicanherald.com:

The center, called The Virtual Edge, will be on the balcony overlooking the gymnasium. It will feature video fitness equipment and sports games designed to encourage healthy lifestyles and physical fitness in local youth, Seamon said.
The grant was presented to the agency by Lowe’s company officials last week.
“The Virtual Edge will be a state-of-the-art video fitness center where youth can work out while mimicking video arcade games, such as riding dirt bikes, skateboarding, dancing, boxing and other activities,” Seamon said. “The system will feature big-screen televisions, flashing lights and actual equipment that simulates arcade games, while targeting muscle groups vital to healthy growth and overall fitness of young adults.”

Jillian Michaels’ “Fitness Ultimatum 2009
” for Nintendo’s Wii
system, available in retail stores, can be played by yourself or with others.
“I’ve played it and burned 12 calories a minute,” she said. “It’s pretty hard.”
A fitness video game is just one way, she said, to keep exercise enjoyable. Her other suggestions:
1. Write down reasons to stay in shape: Every time your motivation lags, read your list. Whatever it is you want — play with grandkids, look hot on spring break — read it repeatedly.
2. Reward yourself: Make rewards correspond to the size of the goal, such as a manicure for a 5-pound loss, but nothing food-related, she said.
3. Put variety into your workout: Include cardiovascular exercise, strength-training and flexibility. Mix in workouts with friends, nature walks and dance classes. Keep it fresh.
4. Chart your progress: Use a calorie-counter and/or heart-rate monitor to measure how hard you’re working. “When I see how many calories I burned, that motivates me,” she said.
5. Use visualization: Think about your body getting smaller; picture what motivates you.

From canada.com:

In the fight against childhood obesity, grim statistics continue to be reported.
One in four children in the U.S. spend at least three hours a day sitting in front of the computer surfing the net but not doing school work – up from 22 per cent in 2003.
Yet as an international conference being held in Montreal this week shows, the news isn’t all bleak. In fact, one of the evils that’s been blamed for contributing toward obesity in children – video games – is now being used to promote physical activity.
Exergaming is a ‘wholesome’ activity that is free of the violence that plagues so many of today’s video games, argues Linda Carson, a professor of physical education at West Virginia University.
It’s called exergaming, video games that spur children (as well as their parents) to use all their limbs rather than only their thumbs.
