“The weight-loss camp, inspired by the popular TV show “The Biggest Loser,” put children between 10 and 14 through a variety of fitness challenges for eight weeks. They competed for various prizes, including store and attraction gift certificates, with the grand prize being a 26-piece Nintendo Wii Fit bundle.

Barbara Divincenzo said she started the camp as a new arm to her business, Premier Rehab, after watching her son gain weight. On Wednesday, she anxiously awaited the children, five weeks after camp let out, to see how well they performed on their own.”

“And I thought the Wii was only good for pulling muscles I didn’t know I had. Science is finally catching up with marketers’ claims that people can lose weight by playing certain video games.

University of Hong Kong researchers recently said that kids playing active video games (which get you off your butt, and get all your parts moving) can burn up to four times as many calories as those that work only thumbs and wrists.

This news has me taking a second look at UltiMotion Swing Zone from Jakks Pacific, which I had dismissed initially as a cheap Wii knockoff.”
